A Work Environment Blind Spot – Exploring School Principals’ Organisational and Social Work Environments

 This article examines principals’ social work environment in the context of a series school reforms inspired by new public management. With point departure Job Demands and Resources, we put forward following overall research question: which job demands resources are related to satisfaction? The has mixed methods approach, combining material from questionnaires (466 participants) interviews (15 participants). results questionnaire indicate that such as role clarity, influence, meaningfulness, community with senior managers were satisfaction, while lacking (influence, managers) experiencing conflicts associated higher intention leave profession. provide more in-depth understanding shift institutional logics within sector, enforcing boundaries between professional managerial roles accordance New Public Managerial Ideas. separation profession management contributes organisational environments being blind spot. is not only problem for principals, but also risk factor organisations themselves, stress ill-health among leaders tend affect entire organisation.
